Flowers in May

December 13, 2021

-Multicultural Festival and the Second Essay Award Ceremony of the Canada-China Friendship Promotion Association

May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to reflect on the tragedies that have occurred in Canada’s history and to commemorate the contributions of Asian people to Canada.

Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated across Canada since the 1990s. In December 2001, the Senate passed a motion proposed by Senator Vivienne Poy to officially designate May as Canadian Asian Heritage Month. In May 2002, the Canadian government signed an official statement declaring May as Asian Heritage Month.

Diversity is one of Canada's greatest strengths, and we work hard to ensure that all Canadians have the opportunity to reach their full potential and participate in Canadian civic life.

In this special month, the Canada-China Friendship Promotion Association and the Mancheng Chinese Service Center organize a multicultural festival, inviting ethnic minorities to celebrate through dances, songs, operas, etc., and taste healthy and delicious Chinese food. In this cultural festival, let’s recall the past of Chinese workers building the Pacific Railway a hundred years ago, and Canada’s dark history of excluding Chinese.
